Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Pre-Workout Energy Bites

Quick marathon training update: things are moving right along – I hit the 13 mile mark last weekend and realized I’m basically halfway there (AND I’M FREAKING OUT ONLY A LITTLE BIT!)

In a true nutrition fanatic sense, one of my favorite things to talk about during training is marathon fueling (aka the food). I spent a good amount of time researching sports nutrition during my undergrad years, which I’m always happy putting to good use!

My Charleston Eats: The Daily

The other week I took on a fun project at one of my go-to spots here in Charleston, appropriately called the Daily. (all the coffee sleeves pictured above…all found in my car. True story!) 

The Daily is the sister store of the famous local hot spot that serves some of the sandwiches in town, Butcher & Bee. It’s a specialty grocery store/ juice & coffee bar, so you’ll find on the shelves many of the items served at Butcher & Bee. I love the grab and go concept because B&B is only open for lunch on the weekdays and when the craving is real for a B&B kale slaw, I know I’m covered!

Nutrition Happens Travels: Favorite Travel Snacks Lately

My picks for travel snacks are always changing to match the meals I’ve been eating. I use to be very habitual about eating on a routine and the same things on repeat – and although it’s obviously not a bad thing to know what you like  (and routine eating can often take the guess work out of healthy eating) it doesn’t quite work for me when I travel.  

I knew I was going to be spending a good amount of time exploring the food scene in the area – so I stashed a few items that were versatile enough for both snacks, mix and matched for meals, and (pre) breakfast. Do you wake up extremely hungry or is it just me? I find that I always need a bite before everyone officially rolls out to brunch together – I can never wait that long! The hangries for sure gets real for me, and it’s not the prettiest thing in the morning! 

The items above are from a recent trip I took – I definitely did not go through everything. Being the compulsive packer and picky eater I am, I like to be prepared rather than not. Here are a few items I packed this go round:

Chicago Marathon: Saucony 26 Strong

I’m incredibly humbled to share with you guys that I will be running the Chicago Marathon this year on October 11th, as part of Saucony’s 26 Strong campaign. 

The 26 Strong Campaign features 13 veteran marathoners as they coach 13 first time marathoners (aka me…AH!!) 

I followed along the runners and their coaches during last year’s campaign – I admit I’m still in a little bit of a shock thinking that it will be me running the race this year. (I get goosebumps every time I talk about!)  While I was flattered when Competitor contacted me about the race, I was definitely a little nervous. Running 26.2 miles definitely takes both mental and physical strength.  Nonetheless, completing a marathon has been on my mind ever since I completed my first race in college.
