A New Look & Instagram – versary

How do you like the new site layout, friends? I really missed blogging as I spend the last few weeks transferring the content over from my old site and finishing up the new layout. I had so much to share but I knew I was getting ready to make the switch over – so I held off on a good amount of posts! Needless to say, it feels so good to be writing again.

I first started my Instagram in May of 2013 – about a year ago. I really had no intentions of growing it into something like this. Blogging was something that I constantly thought about, but never too seriously. I have always been more of on the private side – but nonetheless, with the creation of a wellness blog, I’ve grown to allow myself to be more comfortable with the idea. Besides, I absolutely love sharing the lifestyle I lead. I work hard to achieve and maintain the goals I set for myself – whether they are health related or not. And don’t you think that hard work should be something we document, celebrate and be proud of?

Not to get all sappy, but I really have you guys to thank for the constant support and daily comments. I love interacting with you guys as I share with you my daily muse – making connections I never thought I would be making through social media. Work with me as my blog grows – as I know I will as well. Whether we know it or not, our lifestyles evolve as we continually grow into the best versions of ourselves. I sincerely hope you enjoy all the new content and come visit me often!

As always, find me on my Instagram (@nutritionhappens) or email me over at nutritionhappens@gmail.com. I’d love to hear from you!

Hand Crafted Almonds from Lush Gourmet Nuts

Your girl loves to snack, you know that. Raw nuts are definitely no exception. In fact, they are often my go to!

Recently, one of my favorite snacks has been this:

5667765-2Handcrafted almonds from Lush Gourmet.

Lush Gourmet is a company based out of Kalamazoo, Michigan under the operation of owner, Bisera Urdarevik. The company handcrafts unique flavors of almonds and peanuts free from added oils, preservatives and artificial flavors. The products are 100% all natural and free from gluten and dairy.

In addition, the flavors are incredibly unique, including ones such as, drum roll, please…Coconut Lavender.

554943I KNOW. I know, just, if I were a flavored almond, I think I just may be coconut lavender. Just saying.

I don’t typically go for the flavored nuts on the market these days – mainly due to the the high amounts of extra added salts, sugars and preservatives. Raw or lightly toasted nuts are my favorite! But with Lush Gourmet Nuts, the company places emphasis on using wholesome, high-quality ingredients. These ingredients are combined to form very distinct flavor combinations. I don’t consider myself to have a sweet tooth or a salty tooth. Rather, I am big on flavor combinations – and Lush Nuts does a fantastic job with their combinations!

The nuts used by Lush Gourmet are also 100% USA grown. I love supporting companies with a good mission! The company’s push to provide the best and most wholesome product for the consumer is another component I loved about them – it feels good to purchase products from companies that share the same ideals.

Current flavors:

Almonds:
Coconut Lavender (yes, please!)
Coconut Orange Peel
Dark Cocoa Chili

Peanuts:
Original
Salt and Pepper
Cinnamon Spice
Hot Curry
Coffee
Dark Cocoa Chili

My most sincere thanks to Bisera, who was kind enough to send some Lush Gourmet almonds over to me – which came in just in time for my last finals week, a few weeks back! I have been happily snacking on them since and I cannot wait to put in my next order. I have also been adding them to my breakfasts oats and lunchtime salads for a little extra something. These make great gifts as well – the company offers sampler gift packs, making gift-giving very easy!
The following were the flavors I have tried so far:

Coconut Lavender

2695318My favorite out of the flavors I tried. Not overly sweet, with the perfect hint of coconut and lavender. I dream of this combination! The perfect little coconut-y snack with a lavender kick!

Ingredients: California-grown almonds, cane sugar, non-GMO coconut water, unsulphured coconut flakes, lavender, sea salt

Coconut Orange Peel

2651892If you like a citrus punch, the coconut orange peel may be the flavor for you! Citrus surprisingly was a very refreshing pairing with the coconut flavor.

Ingredients: California-grown almonds, cane sugar, non-GMO coconut water, unsulphured coconut flakes, orange peel, sea salt

Dark Cocoa Chili

4158636These offer a little bit of cocoa punch at first, but leaves a spicy aftertaste! Love them because I’m very much a sweet & savory kind of girl – best of both worlds, in my opinion!

Ingredients: California-grown almonds, cane sugar, dark cocoa powder, sea salt, chili powder

Afternoon (Almond Butter) Cookie Break

almondbuttercookies

In the midst of some serious spring/summer cleaning and redecorating, I had 2 thing come across my mind:

  1. You can really collect a lot of useless junk in 4 years. (I have 25 new mugs, and no extra storage space)
  2. I need cookies.

Sweet Potato for Breakfast

I added this mix into an almost empty jar of Maranantha maple almond butter - pure heaven.

I’ve probably written enough about chia seeds on here that makes you run the other direction, but you may just change your mind after this one.

Cause this one tastes like pie.

And come on, no matter how much of a health nut we are, you have to admit that if you could, you would totally eat pie for breakfast.

Random (Liquid) Favorites and Updates

Okay, when was the last time I posted a proper blog update? Because it feels like I have aged a decade since my finals week procrastination posts. In all honesty, between undergrad graduation celebrations and moving out of my apartment, things have only been slightly crazy (okay, extremely crazy). Therefore, I am seriously grateful for all your patience so far with my lack of posts — even though I have upcoming posts in place! Also, I am in the process of switching blog hosts and platforms, as well as giving my blog a new layout, so I hope you guys will understand as I work through all the technical things in the next few weeks. I promise I will reward your patience with lots of foodie posts and musings of my post-grad life. Win-win, yeah?

Now, onward to a roundup of a few recent random favorites — mainly in the form of drinks!

Suja Juices.
Suja juices were on sale the other week at Whole Foods, so you know your girl has to stock up. Yes, I would pay $8 for juice. I like sipping greens. And Vanilla Cloud is like sipping a dream. Like, a good dream where your husband goes by the name of Ryan Gosling. Or Zac Efron. Or just their abs. I’m not that picky.

Caffeine.
The joys of going through my last undergrad exam week. Lots of caffeine. Coffee, iced every time. Worth every jitter. And then again (and again) to welcome the sweet sounds of summer time!

Yep.

Yep.

Apple Cider Vinegar Elixir.
Since my caffeine intake is above average these past few weeks, I had to balance it out with something detoxing. I decided to go with a trusty apple cider vinegar elixir. I simply mix:

1.5 cups of water
1-2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
4 drops liquid stevia
1/2 tsp cinnamon

— for an instant pick me up! Shout out to my roommate who lets me borrow her mason jar cups and makes me feel as cool as her drinking out of them.

So Delicious Mocha Coconut Milk Coffee & Sencha Japanese Green Tea Shot.

Random picks, both via Whole Foods Market. What’s more enticing than taking shots of green tea? Or more iced coffee [refer to above]? The Cococinno is actually pretty sweet for my liking – so I like to dilute it in extra coconut milk. Great dairy free alternative!
